BANNER ELK, N.C. – Lees-McRae women's volleyball fell in five sets in front of a spirited crowd to Conference Carolinas foe King (Tenn). The Tornado took the match after dropping the first two sets on McNair & Debi Tornow Court.
Julia Emore led the Bobcats with 14 kills and added 20 assists on the contest as
Sydney Stigler and
Destiny Holley joined Emore in double-digit kills.
THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: King def. Lees-McRae, 3-1 (16-25, 22-25, 25-20, 25-19, 15-11)
LOCATION: McNair & Debi Tornow Court – Banner Elk, North Carolina
RECORDS: Lees-McRae (0-11/0-2), King (7-6/2-0)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Lees-McRae jumped out to a quick start in set one after six consecutive points to build their lead to 15-10 after a kill via Stigler. The Bobcats took the opening frame by a score of 25-16.
- In the final stages of the second set, Lees-McRae battled back after being down 18-16 and posted five straight points to have the 23-19 advantage. The Bobcats won the set 25-22 off an attack error by King.
- The third set proved to be the turning point in the match as King collected the set win by a final of 25-20 after posting a five-point run early in the set.
- King pushed the match to five sets after a 25-19 victory in the fourth set and jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead after back-to-back attack errors by Emore. The Bobcats answered with a two-point swing, but the Tornado earned the match victory via a 15-11 win in the final frame.
- Emore led the Bobcats in the match with 14 kills and had 20 assists in five sets. Stigler posted a double-double with 20 digs to go along with her 13 kills and Bre Adamson registered 21 digs in the contest.
FOR THE TORNADO:
- Hailee Blankenship had a match-high 17 kills for King and added six digs on the night. Julie Danner followed with 10 kills in three sets played and Katie Harless started the offensive attack for the Tornado with 36 assists.
- Claire Wilson led the defensive front for King with 14 digs and Harless contributed 13 digs in the match.
NOTEWORTHY:
- King claims the first point in the "Battle for the Blue Ridge Cup" competition with the five-set victory. This is the first point that either university has earned during the 2022-23 season.
UP NEXT:
Lees-McRae heads to the campus of Southern Wesleyan on Tuesday, Sept. 20 to take on the Warriors in a conference matchup.
