Men's Lacrosse Battles Non-Conference Foe Tusculum on Wednesday Night

BANNER ELK, N.C. – Lees-McRae men's lacrosse tallied the first two goals of tonight's contest and tied the game at five goals apiece in the third before falling to Tusculum by a final of 14-6 on Wednesday night.

THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Tusculum – 14; Lees-McRae – 6
LOCATION: Tate Field  – Banner Elk, North Carolina
RECORDS: Tusculum (4-1/0-0), Lees-McRae (0-6/0-0)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Ryan Bird found the back of the net off a strong pass via Cade Andres at the 12:22 mark of the opening period. Clay Adams doubled the Bobcat lead 17 seconds later after a faceoff win by Kaleb Simpson.
  • Nate Raymond got Tusculum on the board with 2:47 remaining in the first quarter as the Pioneers took the 4-2 lead with 6:27 left in the second quarter.
  • Tyler Flannelly stopped the scoring run with a goal of his own at the 5:56 mark of the second period, but Tusculum took the 5-3 advantage into the halftime break.
  • The Bobcats battled back to tie the score at five goals with Spence Combs and Ayden Kennedy adding markers in the contest. Tusculum then scored six consecutive goals and grabbed the 14-6 victory in Banner Elk.
  • Logan Ryan joined his fellow Bobcats with a goal late in the fourth quarter and Flannelly recorded four shots on goal and caused two Pioneer turnovers. 
  • Ryan picked up a game-high six ground balls and Casey Zazzaro had two caused turnovers on the night.
  • Simpson went 10-17 from the face-off circle and Jones Hobgood collected five wins at the dot.
  • Liam Murphy totaled 11 saves in goal for Lees-McRae.

FOR THE PIONEERS:
  • Nate Raymond led the Pioneers in tonight's contest with five goals and six total points and Tristan Kirkham followed with four goals. 
  • Jordan Daniel recorded two goals and two assists for Tusculum.
  • Diego Hopkins came in relief of Riley Semmes in the second half stopping five shots on the night and earning the victory in net.
