Men's Lacrosse Records Best Start in School History Since 2010 with 17-2 Victory at Montreat

BANNER ELK, N.C. – Lees-McRae men's lacrosse is off to its best start in program history since 2010 after defeating Montreat 17-2 on Wednesday night. Clay Adams guided the Bobcats on offense with five goals and one assist. Ryan Bird, Spence Combs, and Tyler Flannelly joined Adams with multiple goals in the contest.

RECORDS: Lees-McRae (3-0), Montreat (1-4)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Bobcats started out fast with scoring the first four goals of the game. Adams tallied two markers in the first 7:48 of the opening quarter for Lees-McRae. Montreat stopped the scoring with back-to-back goals to end the first quarter.
  • Bird got the Bobcats back on the board with 14:15 left in the second quarter and Lees-McRae led 10-2 after a goal from Flannelly with 2:45 remaining until halftime.
  • Lees-McRae continued its offensive dominance in the second half with seven more goals. Adams recorded his fifth goal of the game with 4:31 remaining in the game on a man-down goal.
  • Adams registered six points in the game (five goals, one assist) and added two ground balls and one caused turnover. Flannelly followed with four goals, three ground balls, and one caused turnover.
  • Bird collected a hat trick for Lees-McRae and recorded two assists and three ground balls. Combs had two goals in the win to go along with five ground balls. 
  • Jones Hobgood went 14-20 from the face-off and joined Valentino Cortes and Logan Ryan in the scoring column.
  • Eddie Patterson earned his third of the season in goal for Lees-McRae and stopped eight shots on the night.
FOR THE CAVALIERS:
  • Justin Holland and Grayson Scott had the goals for Montreat on the night. Josh Espinosa picked up 10 ground balls in the contest.
UP NEXT:
Lees-McRae returns to Tate Field on Saturday, Feb. 24 as the Bobcats take on Shorter at 3 p.m.
