BANNER ELK, N.C. – Lees-McRae men's lacrosse opened its 2024 season in style with the 17-2 win against Averett on Tate Field.
Spence Combs led the way in the scoring with four goals for the Bobcats.
Clay Adams and
Dylan Gignac each scored hat tricks in today's win.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Logan Ryan got the Bobcats on the board with 14:26 left in the first quarter and Lees-McRae led 3-0 after 15 minutes of play.
- Gignac scored his first career goal as a Bobcat at the 13:59 mark of the second quarter and Adams tallied a goal 10 seconds later. Averett registered a goal with 6:16 remaining in the half, but the Bobcats carried a 7-1 advantage into the halftime break.
- Lees-McRae opened the third with goals from Ryan Bird, Valentino Cortes, Tyler Flannelly, and Combs to take the 11-1 lead. Averett's Brayton Powers stopped the Bobcat scoring run with a goal with two seconds left in the third.
- The Bobcats continued their scoring in the final quarter with six unanswered goals to pick up the 17-2 win on Tate Field.
- Combs had four goals and three ground balls to lead the Bobcats. Adams and Gignac followed with three goals apiece. Gignac picked up two assists, three ground balls, and one caused turnover in his Bobcat debut.
- Ryan collected two goals, three ground balls, and two caused turnovers in today's effort. Jones Hobgood had a solid day at the faceoff after finishing the day at 17-20 and 13 ground balls.
- Eddoe Patterson secured the win in net for Lees-McRae with four saves.
FOR THE COUGARS:
- Brayton Powers and Emmett Wood scored goals in today's contest. Cameron Prutzman made 17 saves in goal for Averett on the afternoon
