Men's Lacrosse Tallies First Win over Barton in Program History, 13-9

BANNER ELK, N.C. — Cole Morris and Cayden Onagi led Lees-McRae men's lacrosse to its first victory over Barton in program history on Friday with the 13-9 Conference Carolinas win.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Onagi opened the scoring with a goal at the 13:06 mark of the first quarter and Morris started a three-goal run for the Bobcats for the 4-1 lead at the end of the opening quarter.
  • Adam Ross moved the margin to four goals with 8:25 left in the second quarter and Morris added another marker for the 7-3 lead at the halftime break.
  • Barton got within one goal after three straight goals to start the third quarter. Onagi stopped the run with a goal at the 8:11 mark of the third period and Carter Whissell pushed the advantage back to three four minutes later.
  • Zach Basisty moved the lead to three goals once again before the third period ended.
  • Onagi found the net once more in the fourth and Lees-McRae defeated Barton, 13-9, on Tate Field this afternoon.
  • Onagi led the Bobcats with five points on the day with three goals and two assists. Morris tallied three goals and added seven ground balls in the win. Basisty and Ross followed with two goals apiece. Mark Henderson, Andrew Lilly, and Whissell registered one goal each in the contest.
  • Kyler Donahue and Bennett Gibbons both went 10-13 from the faceoff. Donahue recorded seven ground balls and Gibbons accumulated six ground balls today.
  • Alex Epple stopped 17 Barton shots in goal for the Bobcats and tallied his seventh game of the season with double-digit saves.
  • Connor Costigan forced five caused turnovers in the win and Everett Campbell had four caused turnovers for the Bobcats.
